Sacramento Karate - American Kenpo

Is one of the most complete systems in the arts today, and Kenpo is also one of the oldest arts.

One of the most common questions we get is how American Kenpo differs from other arts.

There are three basic categories of martial arts:
Hard Style, Soft Style and Hard/Soft style.

  • Tae Kwon Do and similar arts are considered 'hard style'.  Hard style meets force on force and the moves are relatively straightforward.  Also, the stances tend to be fairly wide.

  • Kung Fu and other arts like it are considered 'soft style' arts.  They use lots of parries and soft movements to get out of the way of the attacks.

  • Kenpo is a combination of both of those.  Kenpo techniques consist of some force-on-force and some evasive movements.  It is this unique combination that makes American Kenpo an amazing and versatile art.

We teach students, using skills learned through American Kenpo Karate, how to defend themselves against multiple attackers, street sparring techniques, defense against punches, locks, chokes, holds, hugs, kicks, takedowns, clubs, knifes, guns, and so on.  American Kenpo Karate, as taught through our Sacramento location, is a useful, interesting and intricate style of martial art.

Decades have passed and American Kenpo has split into different directions, but we have maintained the integrity of Kenpo as created by Ed Parker.

Mr. Parker developed the art to evolve through his many students.  Mr. Parker was asked once who his successor will be. "No one" he replied, "Or put twenty of my best students together and that would be a good start."

No one could ever match Mr. Parker's knowledge. Hopefully, if we each share our thoughts and ideals, we can continue to evolve the art of Kenpo as a group, in the spirit that Mr. Parker intended.

"I come to you with only karate, empty hands, I have no weapons.
But should I be force to defend myself, my principles, my honor,
should it be a matter of life or death, right or wrong;
karate, my empty hands."

Senior Professor Liner has been in the art of Kenpo since the age of three and recently received his 8th Degree Black Belt from Master Larry Tatum. Mr. Liner has won numerous Tournaments all over the world and has been known for some of the fastest hands in the business, his speed is relentless.
